I am a creative soul! Those of you who know me personally either think I am amazing or absolutely crazy. I like to think I am more on the amazing side but the crazy side tends to take over more often than not.
As soon as it started getting cold I had a mega dilemma hit me. I was going to have to started using my treadmill! Some people love their treadmill, not me. I would rather do just about any other form of exercise than have to set foot on the treadmill. My favorite thing is to be outside in the nice fresh air, but not the cold air, just fresh air. I am a bit picky about my air.
A couple weeks ago as I was whining expressing my concern for my dilemma. Some of my dear twitter friends came to the rescue with a solution:
Twitter BFF’s “Get yourself a treadmill desk.”
”Treadmill desk? What in the world is a treadmill desk?”
Twitter BFF’s “They are the coolest thing ever! You can work on your computer while you walk.”
My dear friend Pat Barone sent me this picture of hers that she had made for around $300. Very Nice!
“WOW! I gotta get me one of those! How much are they , where do you get them?”
Twitter BFF’s “They run from $200 on up. ”
Completely bummed, pulling lint out of my pocket to find no money
Then I thought about it for a minute (tick tock tick tock). I thought I have an old computer, there is wood in the basement, all I need is a place to put the screen and hold the keyboard and mouse. AH HAH! I decided to build myself a redneck treadmill desk!
Redneck Treadmill Desk: A treadmill desk for those of us who have no money and want to be cool like those people who can buy the real thing.
I found myself a piece of wood to set the screen on. Not an easy task when the screen is 10 years old and very bulky but nothing was going to stop me! I ran into an issue when I could not find a piece of wood to go across the treadmill to hold my keyboard so I improvised for the first day.
This worked really well. I was so excited! 4 miles flew by in the blink of an eye. I quickly posted my picture to share this amazing contraption with all of my friends. I got comments like LMAO, WOW ain’t that sumthin’, can you frame a picture of that thing for me and I want one!
These 2 comments stood out in my mind…
“Man you must have long arms to reach the keyboard.” and
”Oh dear please be careful so you don’t get hurt.”
This made me think of a couple things that I needed to change. I was having issues with reaching the keyboard, so one of my twitter BFF’s said “I have heard people use a leaf from a table. Do you have one of those?” BING! (fyi that was a light bulb coming on) Why yes, yes I do have a table leaf I could use!
I grabbed an old leaf from a table. I sat it on my treadmill and realized I would need something to hold it on. Not being able to find the duct tape…I grabbed some yarn of course! I tied the table leaf up to my treadmill and I was off. This is heaven I was able to blog, twitter, facebook, check my email, read and write all while walking. 4 more miles gone by just like that! I am so excited to have this little contraption. Can’t wait to use it again this afternoon. My winter excuse is gone I have it no more. Now what is your excuse?
