Weight Loss Motivation Motto: Do No Harm

by Maria's Last Diet

Dear Maria...

I am in "power failure" when it comes to dieting and I'm afraid it is affecting my life in a deeply negative way. Actually, it breaks my heart. Not only can't I stay on a diet plan, I keep going through periods of weight gain as well. Help!

Dear Lizzie

Here's some weight loss help for you. It comes from the clinical literature on treating addictions, and it's called "Harm Reduction". Instead of trying to jump right into another diet plan as your weight loss solution, why not start by just trying weight control - in other words, try to stay where you are with no more weight gain.

It would require no great big effort or decision to hew the line, just the idea of not doing any more harm. If you set this as your pre-weight loss goal now, you might see how easily you can do it. That might just give your sense of self-esteem a huge boost. When you've accomplished this goal of just staying where you are for a while, then you might be more able to go ahead and start on a diet plan.

You will have this accomplishment of no more harm done to help you, encourage you, and spur you on.
