Can you put aside your failures and move on? This is so
important for successful weight loss.
In order to keep to the weight-loss regimen and reach your
goal weight, you need to be able to deal effectively with failure. You will
have lots of failures during the process of weight loss. One of the biggest
failures will be not losing any weight. This may occur at the outset, or it
most certainly will happen some time during the weight-loss process. There will
be little failures, mistakes that you make, wrong moves, false starts,
disappointments—lots of little failures.
Dealing effectively with failure usually requires you to
shift your focus from one internal state, like feeling down, feeling
frustrated, being angry with yourself, feeling ashamed or guilty, to another
internal state, like feeling hopeful, forgiving yourself, or feeling capable.
Of course, some people can shield themselves from the effects of failing better
than others.
Do you have the emotional wherewithal to move on from
failing? Can you effectively shield yourself from the impact of failing and
keep going on your weight-loss course?
