Walking & cupcake eating

Posted Nov 04 2009 10:07pm

For the first time in 2 weeks, I got to walk to work yesterday.  I can’t believe that I still feel kind of crappy:  I still have a mild cough and stuffy head, and my lungs hurt when I even think about exercising.  I’ll continue walking but I want to get back to my 5K training and it’s not happening.  I’m disappointed.

I got my farm box yesterday.  This weeks haul includes:  a potted parsley plant (yay), two bags of boc choy, a bag of green onions, some regular onions, 3 lbs of apples, 3 lbs of fingerling potatoes, a dozen fresh eggs, and the most amazing loaf of homemade whole wheat bread.  The bread is ridiculous.  I’ve never had bread so good.

We ate sandwiches for dinner last night with some leftover grilled pork roast, slices of light havarti cheese and pineapple relish from Harry & David (if you haven’t tried this condiment, you are missing out!) I put the bread in the over at 450 degrees, after a few minutes placed the sliced cheese onto half, and the relish on the other half.  I heated the sliced pork roast on the stove top.  Put the meat on the bread and squash it all together.  Completely delicious.  I’m making another version of this sandwich tonight with ancho red pepper spread in place of the pineapple relish.  Condiments changed my life.

Then we had cupcakes frm  Dozen Bake Shop, which is supposedly the the best bakery in Pittsburgh and “the country’s best cupcakes”.  I will say that they have the best frosting that I have ever had, but that I thought that the cupcakes that we bought were a little bit dry and really heavy.  However, that icing is amazing.  The best I’ve ever had.  I bought three cupcakes:  one vanilla with buttercream and M&M’s, one milk chocolate cupcake with milk chocolate icing (thinking about the icing gives me chills), and one “Elvis”: a banana cupcake with chocolate buttercream on the inside and peanut butter buttercream on top.  As Allison was eating hers she made some crazy little happy noises the whole time, like “Mmm” and “ahhh” while also giggling.  It was hilarious and I knew how she felt.  I will return and try other cupcakes plus brownies & bars. I’ll keep you posted.

Oh and they are about 10 points a piece, fo shizzle.
