If you've always wanted to kill two birds with one stone, with work and exercise, there might be a way to do so now. According to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, NY, a desk designed to allow people who work on computer while also walking on a treadmill may lead to obese people losing up to 66 pounds a year. The easy-to-use desk was designed by the study's authors and sports an H-shaped frame with four rubber wheels, which could be easily positioned above a treadmill. Adjustable arms with a computer, keyboard and mouse round out the design. The study examined the amount of calories burned by 15 obese people who "walked while they worked." The results? They burned about 191 kilocalories an hour while using the desk, compared to 72 kilocalories while not. Researchers conjecture that if they were to use the desk for a couple of hours per day, they could easily lose between 44 and 66 pounds a year.
Where can I sign up for one of these things? i would love to do that, but I don't know if the ergonomical adjustment guy at my job would approve. I would love to be a guinea pig if they ever brought out a product like this to public. It's walking that I can actually do all day! Great info!
