Understanding your weight problem

Posted Apr 11 2009 12:56am

This is nothing new but it bears thinking about if you have a problem controlling your weight.

Puberty is a critical time for girls. It is a time when great emphasis is placed on physical appearance. It is at this time when the body may become a woman's life work, especially in our world as it is today.

Did this happen to you? Did you come to think during your adolescence that the shape and weight of your body would have to be your main project if you were to compete successfully as a woman? Is that how you decided you should define yourself?

Some women experience this in a big way and are never satisfied with how they look. Diet follows diet, but the goal is never reached. More than that, a woman can end up truly hating her body because it won't conform to a skinny, idealized image.

Some women struggle with this and end up totally rebelling. After all, being skinny is not possible for most women. So they diet and diet, and rebel, and end up overweight.

Sometimes it can help if you review your own developmental history regarding your body and your weight. It can give you a lot to think about and understand.
