Transition

Posted Aug 03 2008 9:03am

This week I’ve begun a bit of a transition from Medifast to vacation eating mode. Which is not to say that I’ve been going crazy, but I have veered from the “lean and green” meal at dinner.

Friday night, aftermy mom’s terrible car accident, the family gathered at my parents’ house and after we had a glass or two of wine, and calmed down from the severity of what might have been, we ordered sushi.  Again, not a terrible thing to eat, it’s relatively healthy, but the rice isn’t exactly “lean and green.”

Last night my parent and I went to a triple-A league game because they were having a Sons of Sicily Italian Night.  I eat an Italian sausage sandwich, although the bread was so crumbly I decided to just eat the peppers, onions, and sausage.  In the past I might’ve eaten the bread, even though it wasn’t good.  Last night I chose not to eat something that didn’t taste good because I didn’t want to waste calories on something I wasn’t enjoying. I also had a couple of beers - it was a baseball game, after all.

My philosophy for this vacation is going to be that I’m going to try anything I want, but I’m going to maintain portion control.  CBCB talks about this ice cream shop on Cape Cod that people line outside to get.  I’m definitely going to try some, but I’ll get a child’s size scoop, rather than a double decker.  When we’re in the North End of Boston, you better believe I’m going to have a slice or two of pizza, but in moderation.  I’m planning on making healthy choices, but enjoying my indulgences, too.

I’m hoping that we’ll be walking so much, I’ll burn lots of calories, and hopefully any weight I might have gained will be negated by the exercise.  Even if I gain 5 pounds on this 10-day trip, I’m ok with that.  I know I can lose the weight when I get back home, and it will be worth it.
