Time to act on your New Year's weight loss resolutions, 5 Tips

It was recently announced that Oklahoma City has the dubious distinction of being the ninth most obese city in the USA. The mayor of the city has taken action and set up mechanisms so that people can do something about their weight problems. He has, in effect, put his city “on a diet” and says his New Year’s resolution for the city is for residents to collectively lose one million pounds. If the mayor can take such action for an entire city, then individuals everywhere can do the same. You don’t have to lose one million pounds but if you heed some healthy tips then you can lose enough weight to make yourself healthier. You can begin with the following tips:
1. Walk as much as possible.
Doctors recommend that it is important to get at least three ten minute walking sessions into each day. You can do it if you park your car in a distant place, or better yet, don’t take your car when doing errands or shopping. If you can’t work walking into your daily routine, then a great way to do it is to take a walk after your evening meal. Go out of your house and take a look at your watch, then start walking. When you see that you have gone for 15 minutes, then turn around and walk back! An evening walk burns calories, helps digestion and helps you to get sound sleep.
2. Substitute fruit for high calorie snacks
It is not a good idea to try to suppress your appetite. When you are hungry then you should eat. However, instead of eating a sugar glazed donut for your morning or afternoon snack, eat some fruit instead. You will be surprised at how you can get satisfaction in such a simple, low calorie way, once you get used to it.
3. Drink plenty of water throughout the day
If you really have to put something in your mouth during the day, in between meals, then let it be water. Naturopaths recommend four liters of water per day. If you have skin problems then you should drink even more. Water drinking helps digestion and prevents many diseases as well as helping in weight reduction.
4. Practice yoga and meditation
Inner determination is the key to success in the battle to overcome any undesirable habit. If you are mentally strong then you can change your behavior. If you are not strong and firm in your resolve then you can come up with million reasons why you should eat a donut rather than an apple. Just as there are exercises that can make your physical muscles strong, there are also exercises that will help you to strengthen your “mental muscle.” The best way to build will power is to practice meditation accompanied by yoga postures. Once you have built up your firm determination, nothing can stop you from achieving your goals.
5. Practice fasting at regular intervals
It is not necessary to eat 365 days a year. In fact, your internal organs need to rest from time to time, just as you need days off from work and a regular vacation. Fasting twice a month will not only help you to lose weight, but it will help you to maintain all-around health, and it is a great way to build will power.
If you follow these five tips, then you can lose as much weight as you need to. And if Oklahoma City were to collectively do this, they would lose two million pounds!
