The John Story

Posted Jan 10 2010 12:00am
John could not get to sleep. He had been trying to lose weight for over a month, but had seen no progress.

"Why won't the scale budge?" John thought to himself.

Twisting and turning, John thought about what he did that day...

In the morning, John had a healthy breakfast, which consisted of a bowl of oatmeal and a banana.

Afterwards, John went to the gym to pump some iron. He got a good workout in before work.

For lunch, instead of going out to eat at Applebee's with his co-workers, John decided to get a healthy chicken breast sub from Subway.

When John got home from work, he looked outside at the beautiful sunset, and decided to take a walk around the park with his dog Chow Mein.

After his walk, John was hungry! He made himself a lean cut of steak on the Forman and a side of steamed vegetables.

He spent the rest of the night watching an extremely long episode of The Biggest Loser.

Before bed, John hopped on the scale, and realized that all of his hard work for the entire month was a waste. Nothing had changed.

Why? Why has John not lost any weight in an entire month. Everything he is doing seems pretty good on paper...Let's look at his day again - maybe we missed something...

In the morning, John had a healthy breakfast, which consisted of a bowl of oatmeal and a banana. Unfortunately, what John thought was a half cup of oatmeal, was actually a full cup. As for the banana? It was not a medium-sized banana, but in fact at a large. Looks like John actually ate almost 200 more calories for breakfast than he thought did...

Afterwards, John went to the gym to pump some iron. He got a good workout in before work. What John considered "a good workout" was three sets of bicep curls, a set of crunches, and two sets of leg curls. John didn't burn many calories or focus on lifts that would most benefit him.

For lunch, instead of going out to eat at Applebee's with his co-workers, John decided to get a healthy chicken breast sub from Subway. Oh, John forgot to take into account the mayo he got on his sub. Do you know how much mayo those Sandwhich Artists like to add? Talk about drenching it in fat...

When John got home from work, he looked outside at the beautiful sunset, and decided to take a walk around the park with his dog Chow Mein. This was a good idea, EXPECT for the part where John stopped at the ice cream truck and got a Nestle Drumstick because he thought he "earned it".

After his walk, John was hungry! He made himself a lean cut of steak on the Forman and a side of steamed vegetables. John only eyeballed the steak when determining the number of calories in it. Tsk Tsk. He should have used the food scale because it cost him an extra 400 calories.

He spent the rest of the night watching an extremely long episode of The Biggest Loser. And well, he didn't move an inch.

So why dear John are you not losing weight? I think the answer is pretty clear.
