Social support can work against your weight loss plan

If your social network strongly supports your behavior, you are likely to stay with it.

Therefore, in terms of eating, if a lot of your friends, colleagues, or family members eat too much, if many of them stay overweight, you will probably do the same.

If you are serious about losing weight, you may need to reevaluate these relationships. You may need to distance yourself to a certain degree from people (even from family members) while you are concentrating on your effort to change. Once you are able to stand on your own two feet where food and your weight are concerned, you will be able to fully engage in these old relationships again without harm.
