Oh me oh my. Can someone please talk me out of doing Slim Fast? Other than the fact that it's incredibly high in sugar, I recognize that I lose a lot of weight only to gain it right back again after a few months. The unrational, NOW part of my brain is like, "That's okay. In a few months you can do it again." The other part of my brain argues, "In this very forum, you have preached about losing weight simply using diet and exercise. Why would you even speak of this?"
However, when you're feeling those extra ten pounds that you just can't shake, it's easy to get lazy and want to do the lazy diet. Someone please talk me out of this.
Alright, since nobody talked me out of it, I did it. I went on the Slim Fast Diet. And I have to say, in spite of all signs pointing to the fact that this is a crash diet and not good because I will simply, one day, gain all the weight back - it worked. I have lost my belly. And I am paying more attention to portions since I'm actively calorie counting, not eating any junk food at all (other than the Slim Fast) and overall pleased with the results. I'll let you know how soon the weight comes back - if it does.
I never thought of that stuff actually working--even if it is just temp. I use to be on accutane (which makes your body retain more fat) and birth control (which increases your appetite) at the same time. Since I was so paranoid about gaining weight, I was extra conscious about how I treated my body and actually lost weight. The same thing happened when I broke my ankle. I was afraid that if I couldn't work out, I'd get fat. Instead I did a lot of ab and arm exercises and watched what I ate very carefully--again I lost weight and my stomach has never looked so good. My point is, that your new belly-less physique being threatened by imminent weight gain might be enough motivation to get you eating and working out enough to retain the look without the use of slim-fast (and it seems this is already happening, so yay you!)
Although Slim Fast may work for you and you are able to lose a little weight, it does not give you the same satisfaction as going to the gym and working hard to get to where you want to be. I'm sure Slim Fast does not taste that great and it cannot help you reduce stress. Since you know you will probably gain all the weight back, why not just make a modification in your diet and exercise as a life change, not just quick fix? This way you can feel great and look good year-round. It's tempting to take the easy route, but your really not being good to your body... just your mirror image.
