With the sun beaming through my bedroom window and the sense of refreshment I was feeling, I was almost certain I had overslept my alarm this morning. Low and behold, it was 6AM! For whatever reason I was up, refreshed, and far from over sleeping my alarm.
I popped out of bed, put on my workout clothes, threw some clothes in the wash, unloaded the dishwasher, and got my rear down to the gym. I worked out on the elliptical for 30 minutes and the treadmill for 20. Not my toughest workout, but it was great to get my sweat on before the day got going.
By 8AM I was itching to get out to the farmers market, so I swung by Starbucks for a tall coffee and then walked over to the Rockville Farmers Market.
The weather this morning was fantastic. Bright and sunny with a slight crispness in the air.
There were about 15 vendors at the market, ranging from various farmers to bakers to flower farms to Amish farmers to coffee experts! My kind of farmers market. I figured that even though I was early, I could at least buy a few things… but no. The farmers market opens strictly at 9AM!
Around 8:30AM lines started to form at various stands, with this one being the largest. I figured, why not join the crowd? At this stand I bought sour cherries, strawberries, and rhubarb. I’ll be out of town this week so I figured I would make Neal a strawberry-rhubarb-cherry crumble for the week. You know, make some sugar for my sugar for when I’m away.
There were SO many amazing veggies out there. I hated that I was going to be away next week but I’ll just have to make it back out here next Saturday morning.
In the end I picked up strawberries, sour cherries, rhubarb, tomatoes, basil, swiss chard (for dinner tonight), and some Great Harvest bread for Neal.
With all this new produce I decided to whip up a farmers market scramble for breakfast.
I sauteed cherry tomatoes with some ham and then added an egg white + one egg mixture to the pan. I also added a little taco sauce to the eggs to add a little kick.
It’s almost 5PM now and I’m still full! It was a fantastic and filling scramble.
Tonight for dinner I’m planning to saute swiss chard with some garlic and serve with a little pasta and parmesan cheese. Neal has been away since Friday, so I’ve been enjoying making veggielicious meals for myself. I miss him but it’s fun making some of my old favorites.
Tomorrow looks to be an awesome day as well.
Working out (I’m thinking Body Revolution Cardio 1)
