Re-joined WW, looking back, and setting 2009 goals & rewards
Posted Dec 29 2008 4:41pm
After my last conversation with BFF, I had decided to go back to the Sunday meetings at WW, at center I love with a great leader. She and I had planned to go this morning to kick things off right going into the new year.
I had gone over DRMK’s house last night for dinner, and ended up staying there really late, not getting home until 1am. Still, I set the alarm for 7:30am, in preparation to go to the 9am meeting (getting there at 8:30 to weigh in).
Then at 8:44am, BFF texted me and asked if I was on my way. On my way? I was still sleeping! Oh no! She said that she was feeling sick, and was going to skip the meeting. My heart sank, thinking, “all my plans are going by the wayside because I couldn’t wake up on time.”
Until I remembered (once I had fully woken up) that I could go to the 10:30 meeting at the same location this morning. Whew, what a relief.
So I got myself together, and went to the meeting. It felt so good to rejoin, get my Momentum Plan materials, and get back on track.
This week’s meeting was all about looking back at things we were proud of in 2008 and setting new goals for 2009.
Things I’m proud of from 2008:
I made losing weight and being healthy a priority in 2008.
I lost quite a bit of weight and finally felt better about myself.
I started exercising regularly, even buying a bike.
I started cooking healthy meals again.
I went down 4 sizes in pants.
Although I had some serious setbacks beginning in September, I remained clear that losing weight and being healthier were my ultimate goals.
New Goals for 2009:
Attend meetings every week, no matter what the scale says. As so many of you have pointed out, those tough weeks are the weeks I need the meeting the most.
Try a new recipe once a week.
Make Sundays my “get organized” day - go to WW, go to the grocery store, and think about the week ahead by planning good lunches and dinners.
Get active. This means moving every day, whether it’s a full-on workout at the gym, doing a workout DVD at home, a quick walk around the neighborhood, or a bike ride. I’m committing to moving my body each and every day.
Learn more about Team in Training, and hopefully sign up for a walk/run. (I’ve signed up for an informational meeting on Jan. 24th, and I’m interested to see if they have anything besides 1/2 marathons to try).
Get to my goal weight (or pretty darned close) by October 17th, the night of my 20th high school reunion.
I really want a Wii and Wii Fit, and I’m going to be getting $500 in February because of my summer fellowship. So, IF (and only if) I go to a meeting every week between now and February 15th (when I should get the check), I’ll buy myself a Wii and a Wii Fit.
5%: get a pedicure. I usually go at least once a month for a pedicure, but since it’s winter and I’ve been trying to cut back my spending (trying being the key word), I haven’t gotten one in a long time. 5% will mean losing 13 pounds, which is a great start, and a pedicure will be a nice treat.
10%: not sure yet. Any suggestions?
I’m extremely motivated to get going on this, and I’m already starting. Even though it’s noon now, I haven’t eaten breakfast yet (I don’t eat before my meetings). So, I’m making a healthy breakfast: coffee, oatmeal, and mixed berries. Then I’m going to go through my cookbooks and earmark healthy recipies that I want to try out. I’ll make a shopping list for my trip to the grocery store later today. Afterwards, I’m going to get my bike out and go for a bike ride, since the weather is sunny and somewhat warmer (above 50 degrees) today. And finally, I’m going go to the grocery store to stock up on some fruits, veggies, and lean proteins for lunch and dinner for the rest of this week.
I know this is going to be a great week, and I can’t wait to see my results.
