Party Planning Mode

Posted Aug 31 2011 12:00am
It's almost time for Aryanne's 1st birthday, and I am in full birthday party planning mode. The invitations have been ordered and received, the cake has been picked out and a theme has been established, but we still haven't decided on what kind of food to serve. It will be all vegetarian, of course, but my hubby and I are not agreeing on what we should have. I think he's leaning more towards Indian food and I'm leaning more towards Mexican. We had Indian food at the baby shower, so that's why I'm thinking it would be fun to go with something different for this party. If you have any great veggie-friendly food ideas, please send them my way!

We're planning to invite 30-35 of our closet friends and family to Ary's birthday bash, and while I want to make things feel festive and fun, I don't want to go overboard either. The only thing we are splurging on is the cake. As much as I would love to share a photo of it with you, I can't because some of my family will read this, and I don't want to spoil the surprise! I can share a little of what's planned for the decorations, though. For the decorations, I plan on using a lot of low-cost hanging lanterns in different colors, and to make it feel whimsical and fun, I'm going to add in butterflies and bees. I'm also looking for other economical ways to make it look pretty, so any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated in this area, too!

Here's what I've found so far:

Paper lanterns in pink, light yellow, light green, lilac and white.

Butterflies in the same colors.

Even though, she won't be able to fully appreciate all of the decorations and cake, I still want to make her 1st Birthday as special as possible. Because 10 years from now, I will sit down with my daughter and share my memories of it with her while looking through photographs. It may not be special to her this year, but I know it will be in the future. <3
