Norton Center for Eating Disorders

Posted May 06 2008 3:02pm 1 Comment

I hope this doesn’t come out the wrong way, but eating disorders have always sort of, “fascinated” me. I’ve never been the girl who says, “I wish I could be…” because I know that it would be no better than wishing to have cancer or some other disease. But I’ve always been sympathetic to those who find themselves under the control of an eating disorder, and while I know I can’t help, I’m glad to know there are people who can.

The Norton Center is a Cincinnati Eating Disorder Treatment Center. Dr. J. Renae Norton began her practice in 1985 after doing her residency in clinical psychology at Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. Over the years her reputation as the “go to” therapist for the toughest eating disorder cases has spread to other states and professionals around the country. Presently, she offers the only alternative to inpatient treatment in cases where the individual is suffering from a severe case of Anorexia, Bulimia or a combination of the two (often referred to as Bulimarexia).

“I think one of the reasons I have had so much success treating this population where others have failed, is that I don’t make any assumptions about my patients. I recognize that each person presents with a unique history and with a pattern of behaviors that, though part of a symptom complex, are never exactly the same.” - Dr. J. Renae Norton

Dr. Norton is conducting a survey for her book One Size Fits All to be published in the summer of ‘08. You can help by participating in an anonymous survey.

At the very least, if you or someone you know may be suffering from an eating disorder (and yes, obesity CAN be classified as an eating disorder), you owe it to them or yourself to check out the Center.

Thanks for the link. The more we understand about eating disorders the easier it will be to treat them.
