Gotta have one.
It shouldn't be too hard for me because guess whose whipping up Thanksgiving dinner? Moi! So my plan is modifications and alternatives. I'm used to making two separate things for me and FH pretty much every single meal anyway. So here goes:
- For every vegetable the clan insist I ruin with gobs of butter, cream, brown sugar etc., I am putting some aside for a healthier alternative, i.e. becel, skim milk, splenda brown sugar, salt and pepper;
- Gravy - same idea - I'm having an alternative version either from the can or whipped up with one of those Club House packages without the turkey drippings;
- Turkey - no modification needed;
- Cranberry sauce - gotta have it - but I'm going to see if I can come up with something to "cut" it with so that a little can go a longer way. Any ideas?
- Stuffing - they won't know it, but any breadcrumbs will be whole wheat and/or made from BodyWise or Weight Watcher bread, mostly becel rather than butter etc. It may or maynot make a difference, but we'll see. The beauty of this is that you have the advantage of the tastey herbs and spices that can go in there that you don't have to worry about - savory, poultry seasoning, parsley, S&P.
- The unknown and unmodifiable is whether or not we are going to have salt beef. I'm amongst a clan of newfies, so I may have to make it. I shamefully love the stuff.
- Dessert - we don't eat pumpkin pie, so I'm going to make a healthier, low point dessert which I haven't decided yet. If I'm feeling all Martha-like and if I have anything left in me, I may decide to treat everyone else with a decadent dessert, we'll see.
The thing we all have in our favour is that the dinner is surrounded with VEGGIES people! Pile up on them first!
