Munday’s Motivation: Building The Self Esteem

Anybody got a big weekend lined up?

You know the type – where you just plan on going to town on the food and drink and the healthy eating plan gets thrown out the window?

I know that somewhere out there, a large number of people are planning just this.

And I do know from dealing with a wide range of people throughout my years in the fitness business – 2011 is my 11th year as a fitness professional believe it or not – that building the self esteem of someone can be one of the hardest, yet rewarding things that someone can do.

I was having a chat with one of my new clients this morning who is going great guns. He has got back into the exercise lifestyle this year and is seeing the rewards.

He’s finally starting to see the weight shift which is awesome to see.

He’s got the self motivation covered for now.

But if the going gets tough down the track it may start to wane.

And another client asked me what I do for self motivation and keeping on top of my self esteem and my game.

I wrote the other day about the power of Afformations rather than affirmations . It’s something that I am now doing daily and can see the benefits from it. I recommend you try it too.

I was also remember a long term client telling me his story last year. He has lost around 25kg over 12 months and looks fantastic. All despite a lot of stress going on in his life.

And you know what he said the best thing about his new change has been? The compliments that he gets from everyone that notices his massive changes.

It builds up the self esteem.

So, todays Munday’s Motivation words of inspiration are from platform speaker and author Denis Waitley:

“To establish true self-esteem we must concentrate on our successes and forget about the failures and the negatives in our lives”.

Exactly what my above two success stories have been working on.

Now if you are feeling like your self esteem is not where it should be re-read the above quote from Denis Waitley and start celebrating your successes.

If you’re struggling, keep a victory journal where you write down your personal victories each day.

It seems silly to do for some people but when you can write down your victories no matter how little they may seem they add up over time.

Eventually your diary will become full and if you do have a bad day where you’re down you can always go back and re-read your little victories.

To borrow a football analogy – a grand final isn’t won at the start of the season. It’s won by continuously having those ’small victories’ each week that add up at the end of the season.
