The participants who were being monitored, lost 12.5% bodyweight because they followed a diet which was reasonably high in protein content. Then the experiment began; the researchers had the participants maintain their weight loss for a period of 3 to 4 weeks each. During the first one they followed a diet of low-fat and a focus on high grain foods.
During the second one they had a diet of what is known as slow burning carbohydrates. In other words, carbohydrates that release their energy slowly in order to stop blood sugar spikes in this particular period. They ate beans or through which had very little starch instead of carbs and finally in the third period. They ate the following more protein and fewer carbohydrates. They found that in the period of eating the slow-burning carbohydrates. This didn’t reduce any energy expenditure.
Compared to the one which had very little fat in it the researchers analysed the group’s urine on the high-protein plan. They found that there was an increase in the level of cortisol, which is the stress hormone, just in case you didn’t know. So the takeaway from this is if you’re wanting to maintain your weight loss.
