LOSING INCHES BUT NO FAT

Posted by Jean H.

IT SEEMS WHEN I BECOME MORE ACTIVE WHEN I AM DIETING, I NEVER LOSE WEIGHT. I LOSE INCHES. WHAT IS WRONG WITH MY METABOLISM?? IS IT TOO OLD NOW TO WORK PROPERLY?? YOU THINK WITH ALL THE WALKING 2 MILES A DAY I WOULD LOSE SOME WEIGT. BUT I DON'T, MY PANTS FALL OFF, MY LEGS ARE STRONGER BUT NO FAT COMES OFF, THE SCALE DOESN'T MOVE. WHAT IS GOING ON HERE, I AM 64 IS THAT THE PROBLEM??? CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHAT IS GOING ON??

From your description, it sounds like you have lost fat, and you also gained about the same amount of lean muscle mass. Which is even better than just losing fat. If you're losing inches on your body measurements, you're almost certainly losing fat. So it sounds like it's going really great. Is there anything specific besides the weight on the scale that is not going where you want?

I second David M's notion :)

Do you have a specific reason why you need the scale to move south? (eg: competitive sport w/weight class requirments?)

For what it's worth, "pounds" aren't all they're cracked up to be. But if a lower number would help you feel as if you're making the progress you think you should, just convert to kilograms! (2.2lb = 1kg)

How else are you measuring progress? Have you had blood work done? VO2max? 40yrd dash time? Have you "maxed out" on any lifts? Before and after photos? Body composition? etc....

The point is that there are MANY ways to measure progress - sounds to me as if you've hit the gold-mine and didn't even realize it. Great work, Jean!

Who cares if the number isn't moving? If your pants are so loose they're falling off, that's good news! Probably you're building muscle and losing fat. Muscle looks better than fat and takes up less space pound for pound. That's why you're smaller, but weigh the same. It's the old 'muscle weighs more than fat'. Keep at it!
WELL, DIABETES IS IN OUR FAMILY. I DO HAVE BLOOD SUGAR ISSUES, SO I MUST EAT MORE OFTEN. I EXERCISE TO RELIEVE STRESS, DEPRESSION AND ANXIETY. ALL OF THESE ISSUES HAVE BEEN IMPROVED WITH EXERCISE. BUT, I HAVNT HAD BLOOD WORK DONE SINCE LAST YEAR. MY CONCERN IS, I AM COMING OUT OF A SEDENTARY LIFESTYLE THAT CAUSED A LOT OF DEPRESSION AND LOW SELF ESTEEM. SINCE WORKING AT THE DOOR COUNTY TRIATHELON LAST YEAR, I HAVE BEEN INSPIRED TO WORK HARDER. WAS THE OLDEST SENIOR WOMAN TO SWIM 25000 LAPS IN ONE YEAR AT OUR YMCA. THAT IS WHAT REALLY GOT ME STARTED 3 YEARS AGO. STRESS TEST A FEW YEARS AGO CAME OUT FANTASTIC, AND I WAS REALLY OUT OF SHAPE THEN. I HAVE NEVER TAKEN FEMALE HORMONES, BIRTH CONTROL ETC. BAD MENOPAUSE THOUGH, IT WAS TOUGH. DO YOU KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT SENIOR HEALTH AND BODY BUILDING ISSUES IN THIS STAGE?
You can look healthy, act healthy, but your blood sugar and cholesterol tell the truth about your real health. At my age, 64, these issues are most common, and I might also add my health inusrance and yours, judge you by your weight and age. So, even if I weigh 190 the numbers show that my bmi is too high, if my age were younger, the insurance company wouldn't bother, but they look at age, bmi, blood sugar and cholesterol, as these are prime indicators of diabetes and heart disease.
I lost 15 lbs using a product called obebuster. My waist went from 36 to 32. http://www.obebuster.com
