‘Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show’ Episode 272: Pastor Ron Williams Interview Went Well Until Low-Carb Came Up

Posted Jul 21 2009 12:02am

DON’T MISS A SINGLE PODCAST EPISODE ON ITUNES: Thanks for letting us know that the archives for the podcast show at iTunes are completely missing right now and we are aware of it. My producer Kevin Kennedy-Spaien is voraciously working on this (it’s a lot bigger undertaking than it looks) and we hope to have them back as quickly as possible, so there’s no need to be concerned because the show is not going anywhere anytime soon. Please visit the new podcast feed to subscribe and access all the new episodes of my podcast show on iTunes. We are diligently moving all the old archives over from the original podcast site to the new one at TheLivinLowCarbShow.com/ShowNotes. THANK YOU for sticking with us through these changes.

Ron Williams addresses faith and fat loss, but don’t ask about low-carb diets

Some of my podcast listeners are under the mistaken notion that I must be in 100% total agreement with the guests I have on my show before interviewing them. If that were the prerequisite for coming on “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show,” then I’d never have anyone to interview. No matter who I am privileged to be able to interview, I always take away something I can apply to my own health routine. And even with people I don’t have much in common with philosophically (such as Dr. Dean Ornish), I have tried to be respectful enough even when disagreeing. But this didn’t sit too well with the podcast guest I want to share with you today.

In Episode 272 of “The Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show with Jimmy Moore,” we hear from Pastor Ron Williams who wrote a book called Faith & Fat Loss. As a man of God who is also a natural bodybuilding champion, I was anxious to speak with Pastor Ron about his fitness and nutritional beliefs.

But the interview took a decidedly negative turn when he started talking about how Dr. Atkins died of a heart attack, that the Atkins low-carb diet causes cardiovascular disease, how the body needs carbohydrates more than anything else to function well, why eating protein and the process of gluconeogenesis puts too much stress on the liver, and a whole lot more. When I gently challenged his contention against low-carb diets, Pastor Ron became belligerent and defensive to the point that he hung up on me during the interview. This was the most bizarre ending to a podcast I’ve ever done, although I thought much of the information provided at the beginning about the toxins in our water and environment keeping us from losing weight was quite informative. Listen in to hear some of the positive behind-the-scenes banter I had with him prior to the interview and decide for yourself whether you thought I was in any way disrespectful towards Pastor Ron Williams.

What did you think about this crazy interview I had with Pastor Ron Williams? Was I wrong to challenge him about his beliefs regarding low-carb or did I do something that warranted him to end the interview so abruptly? If you want more information about the work Pastor Ron Williams is doing, pick up a copy of his book Faith & Fat Loss and bookmark his web site FaithAndFatLoss.com. Coming up on Thursday, you’ll hear from author David Jay Brown about his book Detox with Oral Chelation: Protecting Yourself from Lead, Mercury, & Other Environmental Toxins as we talk about the importance of oral chelation therapy for treating heavy metal poisoning.
