hi! i have pretty much been binge eating for the past 2 weeks and gained a ton of weight of course. I don't even want to know how many calories i consumed each day! If i go on a water diet for a week to clean by system will i regain all the weight even if i return to normal healthy eating habits without binging?
Thank you so much for sharing what you're dealing with. I highly recommend doing your best to return to a healthy, balanced diet instead of 'water fasting' as you suggest. I recommend this for two very important reasons.
1) If you're struggling with eating a healthy diet, going on a fast will likely cause you to rebound into binge eating behaviors. The more one deprives their body of the healthy nourishment it craves, the more it will want to overeat to compensate. It's a terribly vicious cycle.
2) Fasting typically causes your body to go into starvation mode which means that it slows the metabolism (the rate at which you use energy/calories.) Therefore, fasting would likely have the opposite effect that you're hoping for.
What I recommend for you is:
Most importantly: Be KIND to yourself. You've been through a rough patch but you can pull out of it.
Aim for 3 balanced meals with a couple snacks as needed. Do NOT skip meals.
Try to incorporate some physical activity that you enjoy. Whether it's walking, yoga, getting to the gym do something you enjoy that will help you regain a healthy appetite.
Do a little meditation/deep breathing/reflection each day and any time you feel the urge to binge.
I hope that my suggestions are helpful. Remember being kind to yourself (as opposed to depriving yourself) is the best way to get back into a healthy rhythm.
