This may sound lame, but I have found the best way to cut back on fat in my diet. Kefir! Fat free!
What is Kefir, you ask? Only the best thing you've ever tasted. Okay, probably not really true but here's the deal - kefir is rich in enzymes, high in protein and extremely flavorful. People usually use it for smoothies, etc. but I've found it effective to use as a smear. We are talking Kefir in place of mayo, butter, you name it. It adds that extra punch and still makes it possible to have a fat-free item without that nasty, bland, no-fat type taste. I even added it to brownie mix the other day (okay, the lesser of two evils - I could have added butter, you know!!!)
Plus, there are many reported health benefits to Kefir. It provides necessary bacteria that keeps the body running smoothly and claims to have helped people with AIDS, chronic fatigue and even herpes. Who knew?
So next time you are thinking about adding your basic fat-free topping to that dry bagel - think yum. Think Kefir. But be sure to grab the Kefir that's fat-free. Otherwise, phew.
