What about forbidden food cravings? Do you get them? When do you get them? What do you do about them? Is what you’re doing effective?
Food cravings can make it so you don’t stay on your diet or so you don’t do a good job of maintaining lost weight. Most times, cravings for sweets or other fattening foods are normal and expected and outside your voluntary control.
Here are a couple of strategies you can use when you get food cravings.
Accept the cravings as they are. Don’t try to change them or suppress them. Attempts to suppress or control cravings can make cravings more intense.
“Step back,” figuratively speaking, from your cravings and look at them as they are. This kind of personal distancing helps you experience the cravings without having to fall prey to them.
