Healthy weight loss diets should include this nutrient

A study published in the Journal of Medicinal Food in 2006 found that subjects who ate half a grapefruit or drank 8 ounces of grapefruit juice for 12 weeks lost an average of

4 pounds

Scientists are unsure of the reason behind this, but theorize that it could be the fruits high Vitamin C level, the action of the flavonoid naringin or grapefruit’s ability to increase insulin sensitivity.

Now before you go starting the grapefruit diet and hoping it is going to shed a lot of pounds let me warn you that this is just one study and it doesn’t go into detail as to what other foods or healthy eating habits the participants were following.

I can bet though that they were eating a healthy weight loss diet along with consuming this grapefruit or grapefruit juice.

My suggestion is to not only include grapefruit into your healthy eating plans, but also other foods high in Vitamin C such as this list here.

  • Eat more broccoli.
  • Add a slice of tomato to your sandwiches.
  • Slice up a papaya or mango for dessert.
  • Think peppers! Red, yellow, and orange peppers have higher amounts of vitamin C than green peppers.
  • Believe it or not, potatoes contain vitamin C, too!
  • Kiwi fruit

Of course you have the obvious fruits such as oranges and lemons which also contain higher amounts of Vitamin C.

So before you jump to the next weight loss diet make sure you include plenty of rich Vitamin C foods to the healthy weight loss diet you are already on.
