Today, October 16, is World Food Day. It is meant to increase awareness and understanding of world hunger.
I talk a lot about food — good food, healthy food, crappy food. We’re lucky enough to have the option to choose our foods. It says a lot that our biggest problem is, “Hmm, how much saturated fat is in these granola bars? Maybe I should get different ones…” We know that in reality, we can choose to be picky or give up certain foods because we’re that fortunate, and we’re never going to actually be without any food.
So, this weekend, take 30 minutes to help those in need. There are many ways to get involved, but food banks are more in demand than ever, given the state of the economy. Check out Feeding America to find one near you, and find out how you can donate time or food. Even though most of us feel broke um, all the time, we all have more to give than we think.
