Grilled cheese; without the cheese...

Posted by Lisa W.

Milk; does it really do a body good? It's yummy, alright. And as human beings, we need our calcium. But there are some doctors and nutritionists out there who think we're really not supposed to be eating dairy products, past the point when we're weaned from our mothers' breasts. They believe we might all be a little lactose intolerant, as adults. If you were to stop eating dairy altogether, trust me -- you'd notice a difference. I did. And here's the other reason to be wary -- it's loaded with fat. If you're trying to lose weight, dairy is one thing you really need to watch out for. But the great thing is that many dairy products come in a fat-free variety. Milk, yogurt, cottage cheese... Unfortunately, fat-free cheese itself is hard to find (and it doesn't really do the trick, either...). But there's something out there that's really the next best thing: soy cheese. And it's come a long way in recent years in terms of how it tastes and melts. When I'm craving dairy, my trademark garlic grilled vegan cheese keeps me afloat. It's my own version of a grilled cheese sandwich -- with NO cheese. And no butter (yep -- it really doesn't need it!). Just soy... Ingredients bought at my favorite veggie- and vegan-friendly grocer, Trader Joe's! 2 slices Trader Joe's flourless sprouted wheat bread TJ's garlic mustard aioli A bit of basil A bit of sea salt 3 slices TJ's soy cheddar Grill it up! Only 355 calories, 8 grams of fat, and 1.5 grams of saturated fat. And feel the cheesy craving subside...
