Get You and Your Family Active

spinning If you were ever going to experience the winter blues, then it would be now. No Christmas festivities to look forward to and only the miserable British weather to keep you company. Brilliant. So what’s the answer? As much as we’d all love to, the solution isn’t to spend every evening stuck on the couch watching television. It’s time to find those gym bags, grab those pedometers, brush the cobwebs from your kids BMX bikes and get you and your family active for 2013!

Let’s face it, the only way you’re going to persuade your kids to abandon those video games is if you have something equally entertaining for them to do, and in our opinion, cycling is just the thing. Thanks to the likes of Sir Bradley Wiggins and the stars of the London Olympics, cycling has become one of the nation’s favourite sports, and rightly so! All you need to do is get your family on their bikes and show them why. It’s the perfect Sunday afternoon activity. Instead of spending hours watching the TV, encourage your children to pick up their kids bikes and embrace the great outdoors. Not only is this a fantastic means of getting active but it’s fun too; what better way to get your family in shape?

Similarly, another way to get out of the house and achieve a healthy lifestyle is to take more walks. It requires minimal effort and is the ideal opportunity for a family bonding session.  The thought of taking a family walk may seem unexciting at first, but from our point of view, it’s a chance to really show your creative side. You could explore different walking trails, see what the National Trust has to offer, or go further afield to find a rural setting that suits everyone’s tastes. Or perhaps you’d rather create treasure hunts, have picnics, go to the park; the list is endless! So try and incorporate walks into your weekend plans, you’ll soon feel the benefits.

Swimming again is a simple and enjoyable means of exercise to get you up and about in 2013. If the idea of doing any outdoors activity in the winter weather sends shivers down your spine, then swimming could be the alternative for you. With pools, training and facilities for all ages and ability, taking to the pool is a brilliant way to bring all the family together. What’s more, the beauty of swimming is that it can be as relaxing or as competitive as you want, and it’ll still feel completely effortless.  Lovely.
