IT’S FRIDAY! YAY! Yes, I missed you guys last weekend while I was away in Seattle, Washington attending the American Society of Bariatric Physicians / Nutrition & Metabolism Society Symposium, so we didn’t have a “Fun-Filled Friday” post for you. But we’re BAAAAACK this week and I’m jam-packed with all sorts of fun, funny, and educational stuff that will kick your weekend off on the right foot. I’ll be sharing some reports from the conference soon, but here’s a phenomenal video featuring one of the best scholars on carbohydrate-restriction named Dr. Stephen Phinney (co-author of The New Atkins For A New You ) who I personally asked for an interview when I saw him at the Seattle conference–hope to do that soon. In this video, Dr. Phinney graciously answers many of the most common questions people have about the Atkins/low-carb diet during a live video chat yesterday in conjunction with Atkins Nutritionals:
I hope you watched that one from start to finish because it is chock full of anything and everything related to low-carb diets and health. Dr. Phinney is THE resource for the science behind reduced-carbohydrate diets. WATCH IT! Speaking of watching, PBS-TV recently showed the powerful documentary film Food, Inc. on television and is replaying it online for FREE for a limited time by clicking here . This offer expires April 29, 2010 so don’t miss this amazing opportunity to see one of the best films on the way food is made in America. Share this link with everyone you know!
The recent Iceland volcano eruption has certainly gotten the world’s attention with some truly spectacular pictures of the reaction to it like this:
WOW! And to think the ash completely shut down flights in and out of Europe. Amazing and unprecedented. Have you been watching “Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution” Friday nights on ABC-TV? Christine and I have and it’s been pretty interesting. Jamie has openly talked about the carbohydrates in the foods kids are eating in the schools, but he is still somewhat stuck on low-fat. Overall, I think this is a good step in the right direction. If you’re not already watching, START watching it and see for yourself:
On the opposite end of the spectrum, we’ve got this new Jenny Craig television ad featuring spokespeople Valerie Bertinelli and Jason Alexander extolling the virtues of consuming blueberry pancakes and French toast to lose weight. I’m not kidding! See for yourself:
My friend Dr. Kurt Harris from the PaNu blog calls this “Smoking Candy Cigarettes” . Although I despise the product they are advertising in this (margarine), it’s pretty pathetic to think that some people would actually think they could get “stuck” on an escalator:
Heeeeeeelp! HA! Idiots. You know who else is an idiot is the guy from Apple who was beta-testing the new iPhone 4G that was under super-secrecy. But after celebrating his 27th birthday at a local bar, he LEFT THE PHONE THERE! Doh! The guy who found it sold the iPhone to tech blogging site Gizmodo for $5,000 who proceeded to show the whole world all the neat new features available with the new device that was supposed to be out soon:
I sure hope Apple doesn’t delay the release because of this. That video conferencing feature looks AWESOME! Like something from Star Trek. Did somebody say Star Trek? Check out this great parody and impersonations with comedian Kevin Pollack:
And finally, here’s Lin Yu Chin from Taiwan singing the classic Whitney Houston-performed, Dolly Parton-written hit song “I Will Always Love You” in an amazing fashion:
I wonder how much of that English he actually understood or if he was simply mimicking the sound. It was a bit too perfect a performance from the original for it not to be a sound-a-like. Who cares–it was FANTASTIC! Hope you enjoyed! We’ll be back next week for another “Fun-Filled Friday” that will have lots more for ya. Can’t wait to share! SEE YA!
