Frrrrrrrrrriiiiiiiidddaaaaaaaaay!!! I don’t know what it is about this one day of the week that puts a special spring in your step, but everybody loves Fridays. And here at the “Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb” blog, we celebrate them by having a little feature I called “Fun-Filled Friday” where I talk about anything and everything that’s on my mind. From current events to really cute videos, I can’t help but share what interests me the most–even if it doesn’t have anything to do with low-carb. Here we go!
You’d have to be living on another planet today to miss the big announcement that our very own President Barack Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace prize for 2009 for his call to reduce the weapons stockpiles worldwide and his desire to spread world peace. But even the international press was questioning how they could select President Obama when he hasn’t really accomplished anything worthy of being selected. Interestingly, the 44th President of the United States had only been in the White House for ten days when the Nobel prize selection committee made him the winner, so it seems like he was chosen based on what they HOPE will happen rather than any specific accomplishment by President Obama. That’s such a shame for the hundreds of other worthy nominees who had indeed earned the right to the Nobel prize.
Here’s a scathing Russian news story about Obama’s Nobel prize win:
And even the Associated Press, which tends to be a little more liberal in its news coverage, printed a column entitled “He won, but for what?” while the editorial writers at the equally Democratic-leaning Los Angeles Times state that President Obama “Loses By Winning” because giving him this award “so soon in his term embarrasses him and diminishes the honor.”
It’s been interesting watching the reaction from people across the political spectrum today because just about everyone thinks he was the wrong choice. Maybe if he’d been in office a couple of years and did something to instigate real peace, but less than two weeks into his presidency? Very odd.
Here’s what a “surprised” President Obama had to say about this:
You know what would have impressed me the most is if President Obama had walked out on the Rose Garden and shown his gratitude for being nominated–but politely declined since he didn’t feel like he had earned it yet. He could have said something to the effect of “while I am honored and humbled by this prestigious recognition, I would like to continue pursuing sincere efforts to bring about peace in the world for the remainder of my presidency. Thus, at this time I will respectfully decline the distinction this year in the hopes that my future efforts will deem me worthy of the Nobel Peace prize in the years to come.” Man, that would have grown my respect for him so much more had he done that. Nevertheless, I’m pleased to hear the president will be donating the $1.4 million prize that comes with winning the Nobel Peace prize to charity.
Speaking of President Obama, check out this hilarious Jimmy Kimmel Live segment featuring artist T-Pain showing off his new iPhone app using the Auto-Tune technology to create a pretty cool song using Obama’s voice.
I LOVE that! This was pretty darn funny, too, with a woman dressed up in a clown mask starts getting groovy to a Beyonce song with painfully hilarious results.
HA! Poor lady. Do you work in an office with a bunch of cubicles? If so, then you know how cooped up you can feel and all that pent up anger that builds and builds might just explode someday–like it did with this guy!
Can you say having a bad day? Man! Oh, did someone say “bad day?” Check out what this rare bird starts doing to one of the correspondents while host Stephen Fry watches on in utter amusement.
Yikes! That bird was going to town, wasn’t he? I admire talent when I see it, but this video extolling the virtues of the fast food giant seems a bit awkward.
Wouldn’t it be great if all schools had an answering machine message like this?
That’s just too funny! Can you tell they get inundated with the same crap over and over again? Creative way to get the point across, eh? Ever wondered what the classic song “We Are The World” would sound like sung in a blues style? Check this out from crooner Alvarito Pinto!
Very talented guy! And finally, I’ve got one of the most entertainingly funny six-minute videos you will EVER watch in your entire life. You may have already seen this, but it’s too funny not to share from a very physically fit comedian named Judson Laipply. Dancers and non-dancers alike will appreciate this “Evolution of Dance” routine.
That first one was so popular Judson decided to make a sequel:
Whenever I need a pick-me-up, that’s the video I’ll pull out because it brings a smile to my face every time. That’s it for this “Fun-Filled Friday” but thank you for reading. I’ll be trying to blog some this weekend because there’s just so much going on right now. I appreciate those of you who have been such an encouragement to me through your very kind e-mails lately. You guys are AMAZING! Send me your stuff anytime at firstname.lastname@example.org.
