I filled my prescription for the Emergency Glucagon Kit yesterday.
I hadn't been in the pharmacy for a quite a while, and they were giving me crap about my insurance, so I thought I'd be paying full price for it - which was well over one hundred dollars. Luckily, they "found" my old numbers, and it only cost $25.00.
What is Glucagon? It's an emergency "rescue" injection to bring me out of a severe hypoglycemic event, given by someone else, if I'm ever so out of it that I cannot ingest glucose through the mouth.
Considering I am NOT a diabetic, (nor have I EVER been), much of the advice found online and elsewhere is pretty useless to me, but this medication will pull me out of a super-low low If Needed. Of course my concern is that that super-low low will happen when I am alone, and unable to fix myself. That means, the big kids will be learning how to use this injection on me, since they are generally with me if my husband is not.
Also, as much as I've wanted to avoid it: I will be purchasing and wearing a medical alert bracelet. I will be looking online today. (I know, I know, I've bitched about WLS'ers wearing them for attention - and now I'll likely be wearing one.)
Just a quick search, and I found this, now this I would wear!!
