EAT! to Lose Weight

Nothing makes me more batty than listening to a friend, lover or relative prattle on and on about how they are going to starve themself for the week to fit into their prom dress, bathing suit, favorite pair of jeans. It drives me bananas because I thought, by this point in our lives, that people would know the facts. If you don't, let me solve the mystery. When you do not eat, your body goes into starvation mode. In other words, anything you put into your mouth is more likely to cause you to GAIN weight because your body is desperate and thinks it has to store the food like a camel. Obviously, if you are an anorexic and never eat, you will actually start to starve and therefore lose weight - never a good option. But if you are just someone looking to shed the pounds, be smart. You should be eating every couple of hours. No problem if it's just a little something - it should be only a little something if you're trying to lose weight - but it should equal a little over 200 calories. By the end of the day, you will have taken in a normal caloric consumption but your body will be actively converting that fuel into food. So. What have we learned? Don't starve yourself. It's dumb. And besides, if you're inclined to do that, why don't you trade places with someone who really doesn't have enough to eat. I bet they'd appreciate a mouthful of food.

you absolutely have to eat. you don't, sure - you'll lose weight. but the second you eat again, you'll put it righ tback on.
