Does going off reglan cause weight loss?

Posted by valentini8

Recently I stopped taking reglan, after two of my doctors told me I should do so based on recent news of side effects like tremors and such.  I went off and then had problems with loss of appetite for a week or so.  Now, it's two months later and I've lost 20 pounds without trying.  While I needed to lose the weight to get me back to where I should be weightwise, I wasn't working really hard to lose.

I'm getting tests done later this week, but I wondered whether you could shed some light on this in the meantime.

Thank you.

I am currently on reglan and I have noticed weight gain while on it. Maybe you are returning back to your original weight after being on reglan and losing weight?
You know, they finally finished all the tests and determined that I'm fine.  Then the doctor mentions the fact that type 1 diabetics often end up with the problem that food doesn't digest quickly, so you feel full more quickly.  Well, DUH!  I kept asking the doctos if it could be the removal of the reglan and everyone kept saying no, then she tells me this and I realize that the reglan works on the motility in the stomach, to make the food go down more quickly.  Doesn't it stand to reason, then, that if you go off it, you wind up with a more full stomach?  Now I see why I lost weight.  They put me through batteries of tests, so I know I'm healthy, and now I can relax about the weight loss.  It looks like I should have just talked ot you, Rosebud!  Thanks, and Happy New Year!  =)
