Do healthy eating guidelines require nutritional supplements?

Prograde Nutrition supplements As I mentioned last week I was at a fitness conference over the weekend and I got 2 main questions asked to me all weekend.

1.  Why did you create Prograde Nutrition?

2.  Why is Prograde not sold in stores?

Here is what I told them. 

We created Prograde Nutrition because we had so many fitness professionals coming to us and saying their clients are going to GNC and they wanted to know what supplements they should be taking. 

There are so many choices that their clients are confused and not sure what to take.

So we decided to create Prograde Nutrition and develop products based off of science and not hype.  We also made it clear that our products would not be sold in general retail stores that don’t have a knowledgeable health professional there to help the consumer make the proper decision.

You see not every supplement is right for every person and by no means should you be taking every supplement under the sun.

Each supplement has a purpose and you need to evaluate whether or not you have a need for that supplement.

We decided that we would not just throw our products out there for a 16 year old clerk to tell you that you need a supplement when you really don’t need one. 

Supplements are designed to "supplement" your nutritional foundation.  If you have a horrible nutritional foundation then no supplement in the world will benefit you. 

You need a solid nutritional foundation first and then you can add specific supplements if they help you complete your nutritional foundation.  If they don’t help complete the foundation then don’t buy the supplement.

Here is an example:  If you eat fish or foods that provide complete Omega 3 fatty acids more than 3x a week then you don’t need EFA Icon

If you never skip meals or go towards fast food restaurants because you are crunched for time then you don’t need Prograde Lean.

This is what a good health professional is supposed to do.  Help you evaluate what you need and what you don’t need.  They are not to say you need all of it and just buy it.

This is why we only allow competent health professionals to work with us and why you won’t see our products in a supplement or retail store.
