March of last year was the last time I had a regular soda. I switched to diet soda and never really looked back. It’s not much of a sacrifice really. They taste basically the same when you get down to it. In fact, I bet now I’d prefer the taste of diet to regular. A bottle of regular coke would probably send me on a sugar high that would take me the rest of the day to get over.
Switching to diet drinks is good, I guess. I’m looking to take the next step, though. I’m actively trying to cut out soda completely from my diet. For the past three or four weeks I’ve gradually switched to drinking water with my meals. First I just drank water with my snacks. That was pretty easy. Then I gave up the diet for one of my meals every now and then. Eventually I stopped drinking it completely.
It’s been a week since I’ve had a soda (diet or any kind) and I’m pretty happy about it. I don’t have any science or anything to back me up but I just have a feeling that the stuff isn’t any good for me. From here on out I’m gonna do my best to stick to water and fat free milk. (Gotta have milk with my PB&J sandwiches!)
I’m thinking about adding juice but I’m still not sure about it. There’s the whole sugar issue that kind of creeps me out. Is it worth the trade off? I don’t know. I’ll have to think about that some more.
