Different concepts of low-fat

Posted Jul 29 2009 12:29am
Since I started my internship, I've been eating lunch there twice a week. The company is relative small and the employees take turns cooking lunch. It's great because it is a free lunch. And I haven't been cooking much at home so it is great to get a warm meal there.

At the same time, of course the employees, especially the men, don't really try to cook low-fat and many of the dishes are laden with carbs, meat and sometimes even creamy sauces.

I do still eat there anyway because I figure it's just twice a week and that's not going to kill me. Besides, it's free! I just try to stick to small portions, and listen to my stomach when it's full. I don't get second helpings.

Yesterday we had lasagna, and the cook mentioned how he didn't even add any fat. And how ground beef is really low on fat too. That just made me smile. I mean lasagna is laden with fat as it is, what with the meat, bechamel sauce and cheese. I would have never thought to add any additional fat.

It's interesting. I would never consider lasagna low in fat (or calories for that matter), but I guess many people think it's not too bad.

Of course no one at work besides me actually has any weight problems. And they all got second helpings too. Go figure.
