Diet tip about changing your eating behavior

An article in the December 2006 Journal of Professional Psychology says that if you want to change your behavior with regard to eating or anything else, the following ideas apply:

  • People move through a series of steps before changing their behavior
  • Change comes from within rather than from without
  • Negative messages and confrontation do not help a person change behavior
  • Knowledge alone does not usually lead to behavioral change
  • The key to change is reducing your conflict between wanting to change and not wanting to change
