I'm in the process of trying to improve my eating habits and lose seven pounds. Which means, at work I have a goal to stay away from the junk food that can be found on the break table now and then. I've been bringing celery, as I love crunchy things to snack on during the day.
I also really love cereal. I'll have a cup or two in the morning, but then I find myself grabbing some by the handful. I promise myself I'll only eat a few handfuls, but it ends up being more.
I know a bowl of health, fiber-rich cereal is certainly better than a cookie for a midday snack, but I wonder if I'm doing more harm than good.
Cereal can be a pretty healthy choice but it depends what kind you eat- some are packed with sugar which could lead to blood sugar spikes/falls leading to cravings later on. I think portion control is a bigger issue- if you take it to work, can you pre-portion out a couple of servings to eat during the day?
I like bulking cereal out with fruit- I chop an apple, sprinkle with cinnamon and microwave for 1-2 mins then sprinkle with granola. Like apple crisp!
