Can you lose weight fast like this man?

Posted Dec 29 2008 4:37pm

I have a customer spotlight for you today.  This customer's name is Mike Barber and he has been emailing about every 3 weeks for the last 3-4 months and his emails always inspire me and it shows me that anything is possible when you put your mind to it.  Enjoy this two-part series spotlighting Mike Barber and what you can do when you put your mind to it.

1.  What made you decide that you needed to follow a structured weight loss plan?

I was having difficulty getting into my Fat clothes.  I had outgrown my big clothes and now was approaching growing out of what I called my fat clothes.

With many past failures, lack of discipline with other programs I realized it was time to make what I declared a drastic change in the way in which I tackled my weight problem.  The actual prompt came after a sermon delivered to our men’s group at my church on accepting mediocrisy in our life.  I dwelled on that subject and the weight problem I have lived with for the 15 years.  Two weeks after that sermon, our pastor challenged us with a follow-up sermon on discipline.  I lived my life on a foundation of discipline; however, I have struggled with weight gain what seems like all my life.

I came across your Meals-101 program about a year ago during a time in which I was looking for change.  I never ordered the program even though at that time I was looking for a change, I could not see paying money for another program.  I do not believe in the ‘magic bullet approach’ but I am one that has tried many a program, supplements, etc.  I have thought for years that I ate a good diet, but carried the weight because of my sedentary lifestyle.

When the email came for the ‘ Carb Rotation Diet ’ program, I was immediately attracted to the program the main attraction was the 30-day free meal program along with the cost of the project.  I knew I wanted to try the program after sending you an email and you responded with a straightforward response.  I discussed the program with my wife, and we made a pact, if she would help manage the meals, I would stick to the program to the letter.

2.  Did you have health problems before you started on the Carb Rotation Diet?

Yes, besides being morbidly obese, tired all the time I have been diagnosed type 2 diabetic.  I was borderline diabetic for years; it finally caught up with me in November, one day I sat at my desk one day in a trance, when I got home my sugar, reading was 399.  I started on the diabetic program though my doctor’s office.  I was put on three types of medications, taken twice a day.  Things only got worse from there, in April 2006, I was put on anti-depressant medication, and then in July 2006 I had to take a medical leave from work.  Shortly there after I joined a local health institute that had special programs for persons with certain medications, the diabetes and obesity qualified me for the program.  I began working out two hours each morning and walked nearly three miles each evening.  My weight dropped from 345 to 280 in a little over six months.  I was eating ok but not great over the course of that period.

I returned to work then beginning in January of 2007, my job had me traveling weekly.  I continued eating what I thought was good, I would do light workouts in the hotels when I could.  By the time I would get home at the end of the week, I was too tired to really do anything but seated work; anything I did provided little or no physical activity.  I woke up one day and weighed 345 pounds again, and I was not happy.  I was eating ok and my sugar was very stable, in July of this year I asked the doctor if he could cut some of my medicine in order to help me lose some weight, and he did.  During the visit in July 08, I weighed 339.

3.  How has the program helped with those health problems?

Without a question!  I started the program on September 28, weighing 335 pounds, as I stated above once I started the program I stuck to the menu layout 100%.  I started using the weight training exercises in the program, three times a week as suggested, I started walking on the treadmill 20 – 45 minutes per day five to six days per week.

I had a doctor checkup on November 22. the staff that checked me in could not believe the weight I lost since my previous visit.  On this day, I weighed 277.

4.  What was your eating style like before the Carb Rotation Diet program?

In my mind and opinion, I had a good diet and was eating a good diet; with the exceptions of the ice cream and peanut butter sandwiches, I had on a daily basis.  I would eat a good three to five meals per day (probably 3 to 4 times normal portions), I would normally finish the day with a bowl or TWO of Ice cream.  Weekends did not count; I was eating good five days a week, eating anything I wanted on the weekend.

5.  How balanced were your meals every day before this program?

My meals were not balanced in any way before the Carb Rotation Diet.  I probably ate enough at dinner to carry me for a day or better.

Stay tuned for part 2 of this inspiring weight loss success story on Monday.  Learn how Mike adds years to his life existence every single day.
