Building a healthy lifestyle:Better pasta dishes

Posted by Mary Ann P.

We’ve already determined that most of our simple carbs should come from milk, yogurt and fresh fruit. We also know that the remainder of our carb intake should be from complex carb because they have more fiber, vitamins and minerals.

So what if you’re a past lover? It’s not a problem. My healthy switch for the week is changing to the healthier brands of pasta. We now have a wide variety of pasta with tons of fiber, vitamins and minerals. Try different brands until you find one that works for you.

A pasta dish for me used to consist of ground beef, spaghetti sauce with corn syrup (almost all of them have it, read your label) and regular pasta. Guess what? It always made me feel like a slug.

My updated pasta dish is lean ground turkey, sugar free spaghetti sauce, healthy pasta, and a ton of veggies. I use the frozen veggie mixes and cut down on the amount of pasta I use. After I eat this I feel great!

Best of all, my family loves it too.

Thanks for pointing this out! I love pasta and can't/won't give it up, so I am always looking for healthier options. I've never been a fan of frozen veggies, but it's always good to have them around as backup. And of course, use organic products as much as possible.
