Okay, this is going to be a somewhat gross entry but it has to be said. Pop culture has made it acceptable for people to use laxatives to lose weight and this is not okay. My chin dropped to the floor when I was reading a gossip entertainment magazine (won't say which one) and right there in the center, it mentioned that laxatives were a great way for the stars to quickly take the weight off. Hello, eating disorder!
Taking laxatives to lose weight is one of the worst choices you can make. First of all, you are cheating your body of necessary nutrients that it needs to survive. Second, you are stripping away water, which makes up most of your body's composition. And to top it off, that weight that you're losing is strictly water weight. In other words, you've put your body through a traumatic experience to lose weight that you will put back within a week or two of eating like a normal person.
Avoid the laxatives, people. And fight back against these magazines that say they are okay. Unless you are doing a cleanse monitored closely by a doctor, forcing your body to expel it's nutrients is just dumb.
