First, an update. I had the IV iron therapy today, and it went well. I didn't have an allergic reaction, therefore I can recieve this iron from now on once a week, and hopefully it will help my blood get back to where it should be. The only effect I had was a brief episode of what felt like a real post-high carb dumping sensation, with flushing, faintness, clammy hands and rapid heartbeat without eating any food whatsoever. The nurses called it a side effect, and it passed quickly.
After leaving the hospital, I headed to the OB/GYN's office for my regular bi-weekly visit. The baby seems to be growing well, which is good considering a side effect of severe anemia is poor fetal growth or low birthweight. She's still breech - sunny side up. The doc gave me a sheet of things to try to turn a breech baby, like, playing classical music at your crotch. She said that most babies turn by 36 weeks or not at all, so the baby needs to move, uh, now.
I got brave, and asked the nurse what my starting weight was the day I came to them for prenatal care. I've been telling people that I'd gained forty pounds with the pregnancy... NOT SO! Hooray! I definitely miscalculated my starting point, and I've only gained 27 pounds total. This means, I may very well be back to my newly pregnant weight in the first few days after delivery.
I generally drop an immediate 30+ pounds with childbirth and liquid losses. Now, as great as that sounds, I'll still be over my self-imposed weight range. The problem is, I gained weight pre-pregnancy between stress and a miscarriage, to the tune of 20 pounds. To get back to my "goal weight" - I'll need to lose an additional 20 pounds. That's really okay. 20 pounds is A LOT FREAKING LESS than 160 pounds to lose!
So, today was a good day, I got me some iron, let's hope it sticks, and I'm slightly less fat than previously thought. I seem to be losing the appetite I'd developed during this pregnancy. I may even start posting my intake again - because it keeps me more honest.
Lemme see if I can remember today:
- 4 saltine crackers
- About 2 oz. turkey breast, touch of mayo
- 1/2 of a small pita pocket
- 2 oz. chicken soup
- Handful salt & pepper potato chips
- 10 oz. Blue Bunny Carb Freedom Blackberry Yogurt Smoothie (140 cals, 13 protein)
- 4 oz. 2% Breakstones Lowfat Cottage Cheese (90 cals, 11 protein)
It's 5pm... now.
Anyways - kids are getting hungry, must make them food. Till later.
