When you see commercials for weight loss pills they basically give you a list of pros to suck you in. But somewhere along the line they forget to tell you the negative things. Oh, and there are many. It is wise to know that the only real way to lose weight on a permanent basis is to change your diet and exercise. There are no miracle pills that can make you lose weight and actually keep it off.

Let’s start out with the two basic types of diet pills and what they do for you and to you.

Appetite Suppressants

These are the pills you take that make you feel less hungry so you eat less. The drug most often found in this type of pill is Phentramine. Phentramine basically stimulates the part of the brain that holds our fight or flight response. The negative thing about this drug ingredient is that it can be addictive, and after taking it for a long period of time your body will build a resistance to it and it quits working.

Some popular appetite suppressants include Adipex and Zantryl.

Fat Blockers

Fat blockers are scary when you read the fine print. Fat blockers bind with the fats you eat to prevent them from being absorbed into your body. But, when they do this they can cause you to have diarrhea, oily stool and gas, among other things. The more fat you eat, the more butt problems you’ll have.

Some popular fat blockers include Alli and Orlistat.

What To Do Instead of Pills

If you want to lose weight and make it last you don’t need pills.

First off, if you want to suppress your appetite just start eating smaller portions now. The more you eat less, the less it will take to make you feel full. Avoid snacking when you are bored or depressed. Pick healthy snacks when you really do need a snack. Don’t eat until you are full, stop before you feel stuffed. Don’t feel like you have to clean your plate.

Now, if you feel like you need to take a fat blocker then maybe you just need to change the foods that you are eating. Who wants to keep the bathroom close, or worry about having an accident just because of some diet pills that won’t last forever. Do you really want to take them forever? Instead, just cut out fatty foods, except those rich in healthy fats of course. Instead of mayonnaise use avocado. Instead of fried chicken eat grilled chicken. It really is simple to make healthy choices and cut out fats from your diet.

Stop Making Excuses

There is no excuse in the world for not eating right and being healthy. Exercise daily, even if it’s just a walk around the block. Eat smaller portions, make healthier food choices and fill up on vegetables whenever possible. Even fast food restaurants are trying to offer healthier options, which means there’s not even an excuse when you must eat out. Just thing healthy, act healthy and you will be healthy!
