Well, we had WAY too much excitement this holiday weekend. My mom ended up in the hospital on Sunday after having issues with numbness in her left arm and leg. Nothing like being at a 4th of July celebration over an hour away when you get news that your mom is in the hospital...
Some of you may remember back in February that my mom was diagnosed with a blockage in her right carotid artery. So, her symptoms this weekend were of course alarming. More alarms went off after she was admitted into the hospital and they found that she was losing blood, meaning that she was internally bleeding.
Because she was losing so much blood, she became anemic and started passing out every time she stood up. Her doctor moved her to ICU so she could be closely monitored, and she was given a blood transfusion. Today they found the source of her bleeding (ulcers in her stomach), and started her on medication to fix them. We're hoping she'll be home by Thursday. In the meantime, I spent all day Monday with her in Staten Island, and every other moment worrying about her. I'm not ready for this, kids! I'm not ready to watch my parents get older. I still feel like a kid myself! But - this is life, and my mom...well, she's my best friend. I'd do anything for her, and I need her to be around for as long as possible.
So, that's what's been happening in my neck of the woods. I ate like CRAP Monday while I was at the hospital, so today I've been focused on lots of fruits and veggies (and water - holy moly it's hot!). My girls had a BLAST watching the fireworks on Sunday (first time for both of them), and they looked adorable

Do you still feel like a kid, or are you all grown up?
