7 Holiday Gift Ideas for the Beginning Runner

Posted Dec 16 2010 9:00am

2010 is the year that I began running. I ran my first 5K this year, and then my second , and now I’m training for a 1/2 marathon! The more I run, the more I’m beginning to actually feel like a runner. I’ve also picked up a few gadgets along the way, and there are a few that I have my eye on. So since it’s ‘the season’ for gift giving, I thought I ‘d share my top 7 gifts to get the runner in your life!

1. Garmin Forerunner 305

The Garmin Forerunner is a personal GPS system that allows you to track mileage, pace,  heart rate, and so much more! This is the single greatest running gadget that I’ve purchased to date. It totally kicked my running into high gear.

2. Visa Gift Card

Race registration fees can really add up! Why not give the runner in your life a Visa Gift Card to help cover some of those expenses.

3. SPIbelt

I just purchased one of these a few weeks ago, and I absolutely love it! Don’t let the small pouch fool you. These babies can hold a lot. From phones, to lip balm, to keys. Just click it around your waist, and go. They also come in waterproof, and reflective varieties. At under $25, it’s a gift that will go easy on the budget.

4. Brooks Reflective Vest

I really enjoy a good night time run. But I also really enjoy staying alive! So when I run at night, I wear my reflective vest, to make sure drivers on the road can see me.

5. Cafe Press Fun Running Tee-Shirts

They have a HUGE variety of funny and inspiring running tee-shirts, and other accessories. The above is one of my favorites.

6. ITunes Gift Card

Music is very important to me when I run. There’s nothing like hearing your playlist “power” song at just the right moment. Music motivates me, and pushes me to my limit. Get your runner friend an i-tunes gift card, and help them build up their running playlist.

7. Runner's World Subscription

Here’s another great tool to stay motivated. A one year subscription to Runner’s World magazine. It’s always packed full of great articles and tips on improving your running. I love getting my copy of Runner’s World in my mailbox each month. And at $15 for the year, this is a great gift idea for twenty bucks!

Happy Shopping!
