TODAY IS THE FINAL DAY to enter my 5-Year Blogiversary Giveaway Contest . Nobody has had a greater impact on behalf of high-fat, low-carb living in the past decade than investigative science journalist Gary Taubes . From his infamous New York Times magazine column in July 2002 entitled “What if It’s All Been a Big Fat Lie?” to his instant-classic September 2007 book release Good Calories Bad Calories , Taubes has blown the lid off of the outright lies and deceptive being perpetrated on the American people about saturated fat, cholesterol, exercise, weight loss and health. The heavy influence of that 600-page masterpiece that should be required reading of every medical school student, doctor, nurse, and dietitian in the world is still being felt in 2010 and will be for a very long time to come. He’s got two brand new books coming in the next couple of years, including a more consumer-friendly version of Good Calories Bad Calories set to release in early 2011 and then a closer look at sugar (which I heard a brief bit about at the recent Seattle conference I attended) coming likely in 2012 sometime. One of the nicest, most lovable people you will ever meet in the low-carb community is none other than Judy Barnes Baker . Like I said in my pull quote for the back of her book in February 2007 , this book “accurately depicts livin’ la vida low carb as it really is–a healthy and delicious way to lose weight and revitalize your life forever.” I’ve since had the chance to meet Judy several times in person when she’s joined us on the Annual Low-Carb Cruise the past couple of years as well as at the Seattle conference recently. She’s been hard at work on a very special cookbook project that has had a lot of ups and downs that I’m gonna have her share with you in a podcast interview at some point, but it’s quite the story that you WON’T want to miss hearing about it. One of the best parts of my job is finding out about people who are doing some really extraordinary things to help others who choose to live healthier lives. But Virginia-based pain specialist Dr. Robert K. Su says that carbohydrates can and will also “kill” you if you consume them without any regard for their impact on your insulin and blood sugar levels. Now that’s some pretty strong language, but he absolutely backs up that claim with documented evidence to support it in his book Carbohydrates Can Kill . I had the distinct privilege of interviewing Dr. Robert Su on my “Livin’ La Vida Low-Carb Show” podcast in April 2009 and it was quite the listen hearing this medical professional sing the praises of low-carb living. Listen to it so you can get a feel for how healthy low-carb living changed Dr. Su’s life personally and to learn how he’s now imparting that wisdom he’s learned over the years to his patients dealing with chronic pain. Plus, one exciting development is he’s currently working on creating a radio talk show where he will discuss the positive health benefits of livin’ la vida low-carb over the airwaves. COOL!
