The sovereign invigorator of the body is exercise, and of all the exercises walking is the best. – Thomas Jefferson. Well, Thomas Jefferson was born before many of the sports were invented, but plenty were already in place for centuries. Weight- lifting, shotputting, polo, marathon running and rowing were all known to him. And yet, he felt walking was the best. He was considered one of the smartest people who ever lived. His properties, such as Monticello, are hilly and vast. I have walked around there and it’s challenging! It’s tough to keep a stead foothold. But all the portraits of Jefferson make him look to be in good shape, so he must have been right.
