Researchers are not entirely in agreement about how many steps an individual needs to take in order to be in good health. In part, this depends on each person's individual fitness goals. To lose weight through exercise alone, approx. 15,000 steps per day seems to be the minimum. But even a more modest increase from 5,000 to 10,000 steps per day appears to be enough to reduce the risk for several diseases associated with being both overweight and sedentary, such as type II diabetes.
I got a little pedometer free from
www.weightwatcher.com , but I don't know how to calibrate it! I never knew how to put together Barbie doll houses, either. :) I wonder how many steps in a typical mile? I know how far I walk each day, that's easy to figure out in the big city.
