Vitamin C to fight influenza

Apart from its usual benefits, Vitamin C is also believed to helpful in fighting influenza. I do not quite understand how. I have learned that it is said to stimulate anti-bodies that help our body fight influenza. But I would definitely suggest speaking to your doctor before getting stare on anything. Also, would like to hear from you in case you know anything about this.
