Vitamin C Protects Marathoners From Catching Colds

Most of us have heard about the importance of ample anti-oxidants in an endurance athlete’s diet for helping to repair all of the wear and tear we put our bodies through each week. Now, studies show that a diet heavy in Vitamin C offers more aid to endurance athletes than the rest of the population when warding off the common cold. Studies show that Vitamin C was protective for people who regularly submit themselves to atypical stresses: marathoners and skiiers, especially. These groups had a 50 percent lower incidence of colds when they took 200mg of Vitamin C a day.
