Tips for a Beautiful Smile

Posted Jan 23 2009 3:56pm

Tooth Everyone wants to have a beautiful smile. Oral hygiene is important not just for the appearance but for your health as well.

A couple easy tips can lead you to a beautiful and healthy smile.

First, proper brushing is essential to maintain oral hygiene. You should brush your teeth for two minutes at least two times a day or after every meal. Sounds too much work?

Don’t be lazy. Most adults do not brush their teeth for that long and do not brush regularly, but whitening the teeth shouldn’t be the only concern.

Food normally gets stuck in between your teeth and improper brush may lead to cavities, gingivitis, tartar and sensitivity.

Use short and gentle strokes for proper brushing and don’t forget the back teeth, the hard-to-reach areas. Concentrate on thoroughly cleaning each section of teeth. Start with the outer surfaces of your upper teeth, then your lower teeth. Then, clean the inner surfaces of your upper teeth, then you lower teeth. Remember to clean the chewing surfaces and your tongue too.

Second, you need “tools” to get the job done. Toothpaste, toothbrush, floss and mouthwash are the essential needs for proper oral hygiene.

Toothbrushes may vary in size and type. Soft or hard brushes, long-reach neck, round head are just a few of the many options available. Remember to replace it every three months or when it begins to wear.

A variety of toothpastes are designed for many conditions. Ask your dentist which one is the best for you. Remember to use floss after meals and try to use a mouthwash at least once a day.
